Our Gator Baskets are designed to revolutionize your storage experience, especially when it comes to steel walls in storage sheds or pole barns.

Steel walls come in many shapes and sizes. We recommend confirming the dimensions of your ribbed steel wall before choosing Gator Baskets. Ribbing direction, depth, and configuration can all affect fit and performance. Knowing your wall’s specifics ensures your Gator Basket will function as intended.

Direction Matters

Does your steel wall feature vertical or horizontal ribs? Is the surface adequate to accommodate the 2” x 3” Gator Hook? Confirming wall orientation is key to proper function. Ensure at least a 2” x 3” flat surface area for the Gator Hook to grip securely. For best results, allow slightly more space. See example below:

*If you rely on a vertical rib to hang the Gator Basket as shown in the photo, the weight capacity may vary due to reduced contact area for the magnet. Add items gradually to confirm safe holding strength.

Here’s what makes Gator Magnetics different: most magnetic hooks are rated using pull force, which measures how hard you have to pull a magnet straight off a surface. We use shear force instead—the downward pressure applied when the hook is actually holding something like a backpack, helmet, or tools. That’s the real-world weight that matters.

Traditional magnetic hook companies also test on thick steel—over 1.5 inches thick. But most homes, garages, and workshops have much thinner steel, closer to 16-gauge (about 0.06 inches thick). That’s what we test on. So when we say our hook holds 35 pounds, we mean it—on the kind of surface you actually have.
