High Impact Resistant Polycarbonate Window Sheet, 1/8"X12"X18"

Material: Impact-modified polycarbonate (high-impact grade)
Finish: Clear (transparent) with removable protective film (usually both faces)

Typical use: Security glazing, machine guards, storm panels, display windows, sneeze guards, protective covers

Key physical properties

  • Weight: ≈ 1.17 lb (≈ 0.53 kg, about 531 g) for a 1/8″ × 12″ × 18″ sheet.
  • Optical clarity / light transmission: Very high — clear polycarbonate typically transmits ~88–92% of visible light (close to glass).
  • Impact resistance: Extremely tough — many times stronger than glass (high-impact polycarbonate resists shattering and resists heavy blows).
  • Flexibility: Moderately flexible at 1/8″ — resists cracking and will bend slightly under load.
  • Thermal range: Useful across typical indoor/outdoor temperatures; will expand/contract with temperature (plan for thermal movement in mounts).
  • Scratch resistance: Polycarbonate is softer than glass or acrylic; it scratches more easily unless it has a hard/coating. Many high-impact sheets are available with an abrasion/anti-scratch coating.
  • UV resistance: Untreated polycarbonate yellows with long UV exposure. Choose a UV-stabilized or UV-coated sheet for long outdoor use.

Mechanical notes (practical guidance)

  • Cutting: Can be scored and snapped for thin cuts, or cut with a fine-tooth circular saw or jigsaw using carbide (or fine tooth) blades.
  • Drilling: Use a slow speed and support the sheet to avoid cracking; step drills work well for clean holes.
  • Fastening: Use neoprene washers or rubber grommets and allow for ~1/16″ (or manufacturer recommendation) clearance in holes to permit thermal expansion. Do not overtighten screws.
  • Bonding/Adhesives: Use adhesives compatible with polycarbonate (silicone, polyurethane, or specific polycarbonate adhesives). Avoid strong solvents that can stress-crack the material.
  • Forming: Thin 1/8″ sheets can be thermoformed with careful heat application, but require experience and proper tooling.
